Expert help for the things that matter most.
We focus on what we're really good at: high blood pressure, cholesterol, and the everyday risk factors for heart attacks and strokes. With access to all of Cambridge University Hospitals' tests and scans behind us.
The everyday problems we look after.
Hypertension management
Specialist diagnosis and treatment of high blood pressure — straightforward or complex.
Lipid management & preventive cardiology
Modern, personalised cholesterol management to protect you from heart attacks and strokes.
Cardiovascular risk assessment
A thorough, individualised assessment of your future risk of heart attack and stroke — and what to do about it.
Cardiometabolic medicine
Weight and blood pressure are closely linked. Assessing them together is an important part of modern cardiovascular risk reduction. An emerging area, delivered consultant-led.
Supported weight loss programme
A consultant-led programme for people whose weight is contributing to blood pressure, cholesterol or cardiovascular risk. Structured, monitored and evidence-based.
The tests we most often arrange to make the picture clear.
Ambulatory blood pressure monitoring
A 24-hour blood pressure recording that gives a much truer picture than a single clinic reading.
Holter & rhythm monitoring
Wearable heart-rhythm recording to investigate palpitations, dizzy spells or unexplained symptoms.
Echocardiography (heart ultrasound)
An EACVI-accredited heart-ultrasound service for an accurate, expert assessment of your heart.
Specialist tests that measure how healthy your arteries actually are — often more informative than a calculated risk score alone.
Carotid intima-media thickness (cIMT)
A short, painless ultrasound scan that measures early thickening of the artery wall — a marker of long-term cardiovascular risk.
Arterial stiffness measurement
A non-invasive measurement of how stiff or supple your arteries are — a strong marker of vascular age and long-term cardiovascular risk.
Flow-mediated dilatation (FMD)
A specialist ultrasound test that measures how well the lining of your arteries responds — one of the earliest markers of vascular health.
All three look at how healthy your arteries actually are, but they each answer a slightly different question. Any of them is best chosen after a proper consultation — this is just a rough guide.
| Test | Best when… | What it measures | Length |
|---|---|---|---|
| Carotid intima-media thickness (cIMT) | You're in mid-life and your calculated risk score is borderline — you want to know whether more intensive prevention is worthwhile. | Measures early thickening of the artery wall in the neck. | ~15–20 minutes |
| Arterial stiffness measurement | You want a measurement of your "vascular age" — how stiff or supple your arteries are compared with what's expected for your age. | Aortic pulse wave velocity, central blood pressure and augmentation index. | ~15 minutes |
| Flow-mediated dilatation (FMD) | You want a very early marker of vascular health — for example a young patient with a strong family history, or to track how a prevention programme is working. | Endothelial function of the brachial artery — one of the earliest changes in cardiovascular disease. | ~30–45 minutes |
